"Craig has a number of resources at his fingertips that Pierre Noire will full advantage of. For example, Craig has toured the world, recorded nationally and internationally, and is currently the director of the Eubie Blake Legacy Jazz Orchestra. At 31, these experiances have redied him to create a project that will revitilize the jazz idiom and possible the music’s course.” Ralph Rogers. As a child I was taught the importance of learning the vocabulary associated with the various instrument families. Since saxophone was my first love I learned the bebop vocabulary from transcribing Charlie Parker. This lead me to investigate the other Giants such as (John Col)trane, Dexter Young, Ornette Coleman and others. When I started to learn the other instruments I applied the same dogmatic approach to ensure what was presented to an audience aurally fit the instrument. The funny thing is that the more I learned about one instrument the more it opened my ears up on the others.” Craig Alston. Craig’s Project will be a culmination of the various musical styles he has performed in the past. His vision is to create a release that will mentally stimulate an audience, cause them to remember what love is, and will make a person’s body move to the various rythms. Pierre Noire Jazz is scheduling Craig Alston’s release for the summer of 2007. |
